SoFi Personal Loans Review: $5,000-$100,000 with Zero Fees & Competitive Rates

Zero concern for their customers. Christmas Eve arrives and what do I get? An email saying they've shut down both my checking and savings accounts. No warning, no prior notice, nothing. I'm out of town and my paycheck goes straight to them, so I call immediately. Their response? Yeah, your direct deposit will bounce and there's nothing we can do about it. Your accounts are closed and you'll get a check mailed for whatever's left. No compassion whatsoever and completely unwilling to help me figure out even a short-term fix until I get back home. Never gave me a reason for closing either account. I've even got a credit card through them that I've never missed a payment on. Completely unacceptable and incredibly unprofessional.

How smooth everything was. Never had to deal with complicated hurdles at any stage of getting the plan set up.

Set up my own account with direct deposit as a Plus member. Everything went smoothly. Then we thought we'd add my husband for a joint account, though we still use Truist locally for bills. We wanted our savings at Sofi because of the high yield interest, plus they support Crypto/Bitcoin/Etc. My husband was transferring some retirement funds from Meryl Lynch to Robinhood since it was losing value. Meryl Lynch mailed a certified check in my husband's name made out to Sofi. I'd requested direct deposit but they sent a check instead. We needed it at Sofi to invest through Robinhood. Would've been harder with Truist. So I had to make it a joint account to deposit this check. Meryl Lynch actually mailed 2 checks, one small and one large. Getting the joint account established was incredibly difficult and I deposited both checks via mobile app right after setting it up. But I didn't realize the joint account wasn't completely finalized until Sofi rejected the larger check. When I contacted them via chat, they said it needed to be deposited from my husband's profile instead of mine. Yet they accepted the smaller check in my husband's name from my profile when the joint account wasn't fully established. During our chat, they refused to acknowledge their mistake or inconsistencies. This isn't acceptable. It created unnecessary stress and work and they made everything so complicated. They kept making excuses without ever explaining why they processed the smaller check from my profile under my husband's name.

The whole application process from beginning to end was simple, quick and straightforward. I appreciate that it's all digital but customer service options are still available.

Really straightforward, transparent, and easy-to-navigate application with quick approval and fast funding.

Applying was simple the terms and offers were transparent and we could choose an option that worked for our budget without having an extremely long repayment timeline. After approval, the money was available really fast. And there's always communication about upcoming scheduled payments and statements. Plus they keep us informed about how much we've paid down. My one complaint, if I can mention it is all the constant emails trying to get me to take out more loans. You could tone that down a bit.

The interest rates advertised publicly were pretty low. Once I logged in, they were still low but went up a little. Regardless, it's still worth it.

SoFi made everything online completely seamless. Every step was simple to understand and fix if needed. Fast response and quick approval. Money was in my account within 5 business days.

They lure you in with low rates then raise them later. They couldn't care less about you, what you're going through, or if you kill yourself they'll just come after your family. Don't do any kind of business with this terrible company. Unless you're trying to escape a bad situation only to wind up in something worse with this company.

After nearly getting arrested for check fraud, they tell me my funds are available on their side, they never canceled the check, they dont know why i was told three times they did. Things were fine with SoFi until I actually needed my funds. Got laid off recently and transferred my 401k money over to SoFi, which seemed straightforward enough. Problem is, after three months of job hunting with no luck, I had to pull money out early since my severance doesn't come through till January. Come to find out, SoFi locks up your funds for 30 days in case the Fidelity check doesn't clear. Skip them if you don't want to jump through hoops just to get your own cash.

Make sure you read every word of that contract. They hit me with a $5,000 charge just for taking out the loan. I completely missed that detail and already knew I'd be paying everything back within a few months. Ended up being a really costly mistake. Never using them again. That's on me, should've caught the fine print. Pretty sad when a lender charges fees like that.

Got a mailed offer. Applied 9 days back, submitted all my documents immediately and still haven't gotten any response. Application has shown "in review" for over a week. Called 4 days ago and they told me being self employed means a special team has to look at it, and they'd escalate things, which led nowhere. Used the chat feature today AGAIN and got told to wait a few more days, I said that's unacceptable and THEN they were like ok ok we'll escalate again etc etc. Zero confidence my application will even get looked at let alone approved anytime soon. Complete waste of time. Heading to my credit union now instead. Definitely skip them if you're self employed. Won't be back.

Wanted to combine my car loans and credit cards into a single loan with one payment. Based on past experiences, I figured this would go nowhere. Decided to give it a shot since my credit score is solid and figured what's the harm? Got approved and the money hit my bank account in less than a day. Simple, quick and excellent interest rate.

their online system is straightforward and intuitive. Was really surprised by how responsive they were and getting a person on the line was quick and simple and all my questions got answered. They even said they'd help if there was a hard credit pull and I got denied, they mentioned I was approved so that probably wouldn't happen but if it did they'd assist in getting it cleared so I could try another company. Thought that was really unique and awesome of them. My rate was over half what other banks were offering to "help" with debt consolidation. Really grateful for the genuine help and how easy it was dealing with this team who actually seem to care about helping people.

They quote you one interest rate then it turns out totally different, zero customer support, you have to do all the verification yourself, super shady business practices and false advertising about everything from their service hours to what they actually approve

Began a Heloc application and finished everything they requested from us. Never got any follow up or communication from Loan Officer A. Cummuta. Complete waste of our time and energy. As somebody who's spent their entire career in customer service, I find this really disappointing and deceptive based on sofi's advertising.

Simple comparison of interest rates versus loan terms for my credit level. Got to compare against my Prosper and Wells Fargo accounts, and SoFi gave me the best rate on a 48-month personal loan for a big purchase.

Terrible experience 10 out of 10 do not recommend it took us 3 weeks and we ended up canceling our loan because our loan officer cesar arredondo wouldn't return our calls or emails. We even contacted other people at the company with zero help. I've been with our bank 15 years and never waited longer than 3 days for a decision we only tried this bank because they claimed they had better rates. Massive headache and never doing this again.

I'm leaving Sofi a 1 star review not because they didn't approve the personal loan I requested but because of how their representatives mishandled my application. My 1st try they approved me for 30K but we needed 43K to consolidate our loans and credit cards into one monthly payment, when I asked about adding a cosigner they had me reapply, the household income for me and my husband is 94K, Sofi rejected the loan and the reason the last rep told me is that I put the household income instead of just mine then my husband's. Now, since they ran my credit for nothing the other financial institution I went to denied the loan because my credit score dropped from 789 to 640. Thank you Sofi customer service staff for not explaining clearly and ruining my opportunity to consolidate my finances.

I enrolled and qualified for Sofi Plus initially. Every month they modify the terms making it harder to meet requirements without getting hit with fees. Their emails are something I hate seeing because it's almost always worse offerings or new fees unless you do Y. On top of that, moving money in and out is way more limited compared to other online banks. Once you see past the flashy marketing and nice design, the offering isn't appealing. I'm closing my account. I need more consistency in terms than they provide and there are tons of banks offering that stability.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Stars for SoFi This month and last month, I faced multiple annoying problems with delayed transactions happening between SoFi and Progressive, my auto insurance provider. The delays made other payments bounce, creating a really stressful mess. I admitted some of the failed payments were my fault, but the main problem was between Progressive and SoFi—and at first neither one would own it. What I hadn't realized was my issue had been escalated to SoFi's Customer Advocacy Team already, and that's where everything improved. I need to give special recognition to Jazlyn H. from advocacy, whose genuine care and professionalism really meant a lot. She thoroughly reviewed everything, walked me through what went wrong, and admitted that pinpointing the exact source of the delay—SoFi's end or Progressive's—wasn't fully possible. Regardless, SoFi still took action, apologized sincerely, and put $80 in my account to cover the late charges I got stuck with. Also want to thank Zane, who reached out via email on 12/05 and called me on 12/08. He showed patience, kept me informed, and genuinely cared about resolving things properly. Ultimately, I decided to remain with SoFi due to their handling of this situation. Very few companies nowadays demonstrate this kind of accountability, care, or customer appreciation—but SoFi absolutely did. They really went the extra mile to regain my confidence and loyalty. Thanks, SoFi, for still valuing people as people—and for having staff members like Jazlyn and Zane who genuinely make an impact.

I even tried my regular bank, where I've held my mortgage previously and banked for many years, just to get quoted a worse interest rate and less attractive terms. Back in October 2025, we were looking at options to refinance $90,000 in undergrad student loans. We reached out to SOFI that month to double-check that if our daughter enrolled in grad school, her SOFI loan could be "deferred" when that happened. SOFI told us YES. Fast forward to this December 2025 when we contacted SOFI to start the deferral paperwork, and last week they informed us that "deferral" actually means you defer the "principal" but still have to pay the "interest" starting this month. We were stunned. Filed a complaint right away. They reviewed the recorded conversation and completely agreed that disclosure was NOT given, and we WERE told the full "payment" would be deferred. But then they said the person who told us that on the recorded call last October wasn't in the right department to make that statement, that they'd made an error and should have transferred us that day to the correct department where we would've gotten a different answer. So they admit 100% they messed up but won't honor what they told us. On 12-8-25 the SOFI rep handling our complaint (who'd listened to the recording and agreed we were misled) called saying his request to fix things was denied. He apologized, said it was beyond his control and that there's NO WAY at SOFI to escalate to anyone above him to continue disputing how we were deceived. All he could offer was contact info for SOFI's legal department. Then we got a 12-8-25 follow-up email from this SOFI rep that contradicts his phone conversation and contains a flat-out lie about how we were deceived on that recorded October 2025 call. Our recommendation: do NOT trust SOFI with your business.

The whole thing was pretty tedious. Lots of going back and forth just to complete the application. Customer Service helped to some degree. Took more than a week for approval. They requested a 1099 to verify income and then told us they couldn't actually use that information for the application. Same thing happened with the co-borrower

I received a preapproval. I filled out some questions regarding my income and finances, and that was all. SoFi provided me with multiple payment and interest options, and I simply picked what worked best for me. It was a really straightforward and easy process.

It showed up exactly when I needed it most, and surprisingly it was way better than other loan offers, plus the convenience of handling everything online without visiting an office let me refinance my existing loan and get cash to pay down my credit cards. I can only say it's highly recommended if you're looking to reduce your APR and your financial stress.

I've always received loan offers through the mail & the timing was never right. It just happened that I wanted to consolidate my bills & I was able to get a pretty decent & low interest rate & the website made it very simple with clear instructions to follow which made applying easy. Once approved the funds came through very fast. I highly recommend it if anyone's considering a loan

SoFi is ridiculous unless you've got bad/fair credit, a million loans and tons of debt with a low credit score then you face problems. I read this article saying getting a SoFi loan was simple, so I applied for $5,000 (Five Thousand) for some home improvements. My credit is very good at 792 with Experian, which is the credit report they pull. The article featured someone with a 736 score who got approved for $58,000 (Fifty-Eight Thousand.) So with my 792 score, a mortgage with zero missed payments in 15 years (the entire life of the mortgage), 1 credit card with perfect payment history, no hard inquiries in over ten years, 2 fully paid accounts with no missed payments, no negative marks, I figured I'd easily get approved for just $5,000. I thought my history proved I'm financially responsible. Surprise I got DECLINED. Their reason: Not enough open accounts! So apparently to get a loan, you need to be constantly living beyond your means! I couldn't stop laughing. What a total waste of time. They should say upfront that only folks in financial trouble with multiple open credit cards or drowning in debt should bother applying. Absolutely ridiculous. Bottom line: SoFi is a complete waste of time!

Total time waster – rejected after weeks of nonsense. 788 FICO, great credit history, steady employment. Figured a SoFi personal loan would be straightforward. Wrong: more than a week of nonstop paperwork demands (tax docs, pay stubs, bank records, IDs – sent everything immediately). Hard credit inquiry right away. Then out of nowhere they demanded a co-borrower. Found one with 790+ score – same paperwork nightmare repeated, another hard inquiry. After everything, rejection with zero real reasoning. Two hard pulls, countless hours gone, credit score hurt for absolutely nothing. SoFi's system is more sluggish and frustrating than old-school banks. Stay away.

Submitted all my income verification documents, and they claimed my Child Support won't continue since my daughter is an adult.. when did a 15-year-old become an adult? they verify nothing. My husband's income wasn't verified either and they refuse to answer emails unless you file a Better Business Bureau complaint or Cfpb complaint.

Complete time waster. Today's Dec 1st, submitted my loan application Nov 13, expecting same day approval. Their rejection letter lists my Credit score at 730. Get a same day request asking for SSN verification. Respond within the hour. Wait 3 days, then another verification request wanting a different source. Respond within the hour again. They ask for multiple things over the following 17 days. Always several days between messages and I can NEVER get anyone on the phone about my loan and today they finally reject me. The decline reason was supposedly debt to income, but they knew my debt to income the day I started the loan request. Not upset about the loan, upset they wasted my time, upset they pre-approved me for double what I requested then declined me when I increased to that amount. Upset they didn't ask if I'd accept a smaller amount, upset they didn't call to discuss any of this. Upset they've wasted 17 days when I was in a bind. Could've gone to my bank, could've gotten a credit card or loan from a major lender, but no I gave SoFi a shot and they completely wasted my time, made me wait days between replies and it appears they just use a computer algorithm without underwriters. If they have underwriters they're worthless just like the company employing them. Don't give them your time and don't let them waste yours.

$500.00 minimum mobile checking deposit after over 5 years banking with Sofi, what a disrespectful slap in the face. I'll spend the rest of my days doing everything and anything legally possible to cause the frustration and headache this garbage bank has caused me today. Currently writing this review sitting inside my new bank opening a new account with actual people with actual hearts and a hand I can really shake. You messed up big time Sofi. Hope you enjoy making enemies.

SoFi Relay is really nice, it shows my entire financial picture in one place, I can see real estate, cars, investments, bank accounts all together. It makes tracking my finances so much easier and more organized.

Occasionally, I need to delete, and re-add an external account through plaid if I have added an account elsewhere.

Easy process and very user friendly website. I was approved for the loan I needed in less than 15 minutes. If I ever need a loan again, I'll definitely use them first.
