This bank has zero interest in actually helping their customers. Christmas Eve I get an email saying they've shut down both my checking and savings accounts. No warning, no heads up, nothing. Called them up and explained I'm out of town and my paycheck gets deposited directly into their account, and all they said was Yeah, your direct deposit will bounce and there's nothing we can do about it. Your account is closed and you'll get a check mailed for whatever's left. Zero compassion and completely unwilling to help me figure out even a short-term fix until I get back home. Never gave me a reason for closing either account. I've even got a credit card through them and never missed a payment. Totally unacceptable and incredibly unprofessional.

Set up my own account as a Plus member with my direct deposit. Everything worked fine. Then we decided to make it a joint account with my husband, though we still use Truist locally for bills. Wanted our savings at Sofi because of their high yield interest, plus they support Crypto/Bitcoin/etc. But we were transferring some of my husband's retirement from Meryl Lynch to Robinhood since it was losing money. Meryl Lynch mailed a certified check with my husband's name and Sofi listed. This happened because I requested direct deposit, but they sent a check anyway. We needed it at Sofi to invest through Robinhood. Would've been harder with Truist. So I had to add my husband for joint access to deposit this check. Meryl Lynch actually mailed 2 checks, one small and one large. Getting the joint account established was ridiculously difficult and I deposited both checks through my mobile app right after setting up the joint account. But I didn't realize the joint account wasn't completely set up until Sofi rejected the large check via email. When I contacted them through chat, they claimed it needed to be deposited from my husband's profile instead of mine. Yet they processed the smaller check in my husband's name from my profile when the joint account wasn't fully established. During our chat, they refused to acknowledge their mistake or the inconsistency. That's not acceptable. It created unnecessary stress and work and they made everything so complicated. They kept making excuses without ever explaining why they accepted the smaller check through my profile under my husband's name.

Applying was straightforward the terms and offers were really transparent and we could choose something that worked with our budget without having an extremely long repayment period. After approval, the money became available really fast. And they always send communication about upcoming scheduled payments and statements. Plus keeping us updated on how much we've paid off so far. My only complaint, if I can mention one is all the constant emails pushing me to apply for additional loans. You could dial that back a bit.

they told me THREE separate times that a check deposit was cancelled and the check cleared for cash. After nearly getting arrested for check fraud, they tell me the money's been available on their side the whole time, they never cancelled anything, no clue why I was told three times they did. They're sorry I almost got arrested, yeah they have the funds but I can't access them till December 29th because of a holiday. but here's 1500 sofi credit points.. seriously?? I want my actual money not lies or humiliation and definitely don't care about 15 bucks I don't have a reference number because they don't give me one Your wonderful supervisor Jose is the most rude obnoxious piece of garbage that's ever existed But I have a reference number for a cancellation that never happened. so here's the reference and confirmation number for the check y'all didn't cancel 7123545

Everything was fine with SoFi until I actually needed my funds. Got laid off recently and transferred my 401k money over to SoFi, seemed straightforward. Problem is, by month three with no job lined up, I had to pull money out early since my severance doesn't come through till January. Come to find out, SoFi locks up your funds for 30 days in case the Fidelity check doesn't clear. Skip them unless you're cool with jumping through hoops to get your own cash.

Make sure you read every word of that contract. They hit me with a $5,000 fee just for taking out the loan. I completely missed that detail and knew I'd be paying everything back within a few months. Ended up being a really costly mistake. Never using them again. Totally my bad for not catching the fine print. Just crazy that any lending company would charge fees like that.

Got a mailer offer from them. Applied 9 days back, submitted all my documents immediately and still haven't gotten any response. Application's been stuck on "in review" for over a week. Called 4 days ago and they told me being self employed means a special team has to look at it, said they'd escalate things, but nothing happened. Used chat again today and they just said wait a few more days, I told them that's unacceptable and THEN they're like ok ok we'll escalate blah blah. Zero confidence my application will even get looked at let alone approved anytime soon. Complete time waster. Heading to my credit union now instead. Definitely skip them if you're self employed. Won't be back.

your online system is straightforward and user-friendly. Was really impressed by how responsive you all were and when I had to speak with someone it was quick and simple and they addressed everything I asked. They actually offered help if there was a hard credit pull and I got denied, they mentioned I was approved so that probably wouldn't happen but if it did they'd help get that removed so I could try another company. Thought that was really unique and awesome of your team. My rate ended up being less than half what other banks were offering to "help" with debt consolidation. Really appreciate the genuine assistance and how easy it was dealing with this group who actually seem like they care about truly helping.

Terrible experience 10 out of 10 do not recommend it took 3 weeks and we ended up canceling our loan because our loan officer cesar arredondo wouldn't return calls or emails. We contacted other people at the company with no assistance. I've been with our bank 15 years and never waited longer than 3 days for a decision we only tried this bank because they claimed to have better rates. Major headache and never doing it again.

Giving Sofi 1 star not because my personal loan application got denied but because of how their representatives mishandled my application. My first try they approved me for 30K but we needed 43K to consolidate our loans and credit cards into a single monthly payment, when I inquired about adding a cosigner they made me reapply, the household income for me and my husband is 94K, Sofi rejected the loan and the reason the last rep told me is that I put the household income in my income field instead of mine then my husband's. Now, since they ran my credit for no reason the other lender I went to rejected the loan because my credit score dropped from 789 to 640.Thanks Sofi customer service staff for not explaining things clearly and ruining my opportunity to consolidate my finances.

Joined and qualified for Sofi Plus initially. Every month they modify the terms making it harder to meet requirements without fees. Their emails are annoying since it's usually about reducing benefits or adding fees unless you do Y. Also, transferring money in and out is harder compared to other online banks. Once you see past the flashy marketing and branding, it's just not appealing. Planning to close my account. I need more consistency in terms than they provide and there are lots of banks offering that.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Review for SoFi Last month and this month too, I faced multiple frustrating problems with delayed transactions between SoFi and Progressive, my car insurance provider. The delays caused other payments to bounce, creating a really stressful mess. While I admit a couple of the failed transactions were my fault, the main problem was between SoFi and Progressive—and initially neither took responsibility. What I hadn't realized was my concerns got escalated to SoFi's Customer Advocacy Team, and that's where everything improved. I need to specifically call out Jazlyn H. from the advocacy team, whose professionalism and genuine care really stood out. She thoroughly reviewed my case, explained what occurred, and acknowledged that confirming whether the delay originated from SoFi or Progressive wasn't fully possible. Regardless, SoFi still came through, apologized, and put $80 in my account covering the late fees I got stuck with. Also want to thank Zane, who emailed me on 12/05 and called on 12/08. He was patient, helpful, and truly concerned about resolving things properly. Ultimately, I decided to remain with SoFi because of their handling of this. Most companies don't show this kind of care, accountability, or customer appreciation anymore—but SoFi did. They exceeded expectations to regain my trust and loyalty. Thank you, SoFi, for still treating customers like human beings—and for having team members like Jazlyn and Zane who genuinely make an impact.

I even went to my long-term bank, where I've held my mortgage previously and banked for years, only to get offered a worse interest rate and less attractive terms. Back in October 2025, we were comparing options for refinancing my daughter's $90,000 in undergrad student loans. Called SOFI that month to double-check whether her new SOFI loan could be "deferred" if she enrolled in grad school. They told us YES. Fast forward to this December 2025 when we contacted them about starting the deferral paperwork, and suddenly last week they inform us that "deferral" actually means you defer the "principal" but still have to pay the "interest" starting this month. Total shock. We submitted a complaint. After reviewing the recorded call, they completely acknowledged that this detail was NOT disclosed and we WERE told the full "payment" would be deferred. But then they claimed the person who gave us that information in October wasn't from the right department to make such statements, that they made an error and should've transferred us that day to the correct department where we'd have gotten a different answer. So they're admitting 100% they messed up but won't honor what they told us. On 12-8-25 the SOFI rep handling our complaint (who listened to the call and confirmed we were misled) phoned to say his request to fix this got denied. He apologized, said it's beyond his control and there's NO WAY at SOFI to escalate to anyone higher to continue disputing how we were deceived. All he could offer was contact info for SOFI's legal department. Then we got a 12-8-25 follow-up email from this rep that contradicts his phone conversation and includes a flat-out lie about how we were deceived on that recorded October 2025 call. Our recommendation: stay away from SOFI, they can't be trusted.

The whole thing was pretty complicated. Lots of going back and forth just to finish the application. Customer Service helped somewhat. Took more than a week for approval. They requested a 1099 to verify income and then said they couldn't actually use that info for the application. Same thing happened with the co-borrower

SoFi is ridiculous unless you've got bad/fair credit, a million loans and tons of debt with a low credit score then you face obstacles. I read an article saying getting a SoFi loan was simple, so I applied for $5,000 (Five Thousand) for home improvements. My credit is very good at 792 with Experian, which is the report they pull. Someone in the article with a 736 score got approved for $58,000 (Fifty-Eight Thousand.) So I'm thinking with my 792 score, a mortgage with zero missed payments in 15 years (the entire mortgage life), 1 credit card with perfect payments, no hard inquiries in over ten years, 2 fully paid accounts with no missed payments, zero derogatory marks, I'd easily get approved for just $5,000. I figured my history proved I'm financially responsible. Surprise I got DECLINED. Why: Not enough open accounts! So apparently to get a loan, you need to be living beyond your means constantly! I had to laugh. Total waste of time. They should say upfront that only folks in financial trouble with tons of open credit cards or buried in debt should bother applying. Absurd. Bottom line: SoFi is a waste of time!

Total time waster – rejected after weeks of jumping through hoops. 788 FICO, solid credit history, steady employment. Put in an application with SoFi for a personal loan expecting it to be straightforward. What I got: over a week of nonstop requests for documents (tax returns, pay stubs, IDs, bank statements – sent everything immediately). Hard pull on my credit first day. Then out of nowhere they needed a co-borrower. Brought in someone with 790+ credit – went through the entire document nightmare again, another hard inquiry. When it was all done, they rejected me without any real reason. Two hard pulls, countless hours gone, credit score damaged for absolutely nothing. SoFi's system is more sluggish and frustrating than old-school banks. Stay away.

Submitted all my income verification documents, then they claimed my Child Support won't continue since my daughter is an adult.. how exactly is a 15-year-old considered an adult? they don't actually verify a thing. Never verified my husband's income either and they won't answer emails unless you file a Better Business Bureau complaint or Cfpb complaint.

Complete time drain. Today's Dec 1st, submitted my loan application Nov 13, expecting same day approval. Their rejection letter shows my Credit score at 730. Got a same day message requesting SSN verification. Responded within an hour. Then waited 3 days, only to get another verification request wanting a different source. Also answered within the hour. They keep requesting multiple things over the following 17 days. Always several days between messages and I can NEVER get anyone on the phone about my loan application and today they finally reject me. Reason given was supposedly debt to income, but they already knew my debt to income the day I started the loan request. I'm not upset about the loan, i'm upset they wasted my time, upset they pre-approved me for double what i requested and then rejected me when i raised it to that amount. Upset they didn't ask if i could accept a smaller amount, upset they didn't call me to talk through any of this. I'm upset they burned 17 days of my time when i was in a bind. Could have gone to my bank, could have gotten a credit card or loan from a major lender, but no i gave SoFi a shot and they totally wasted my time, made me wait days between replies and it appears they just rely on a computer algorithm without real underwriters. If they do have underwriters then they're worthless just like the company employing them. Don't give them your time and don't let them waste yours.

$500.00 minimum mobile checking deposit after over 5 years banking with Sofi, what an absolute insult to anything respectful or decent. I will dedicate the rest of my life doing whatever is legally possible to inflict the frustration and hassle this garbage bank has inflicted on me today. I'm writing this review right now as I sit in my new bank opening a new account with actual people with actual compassion and a hand I can genuinely shake. You seriously messed up Sofi. Hope you enjoy making enemies.
