This E-file review is for E-file.com, the online tax-preparation platform. It is not the same thing as the IRS e-file system, and it is not the same site as every similarly named tax domain you may see in search.
Our verdict: E-file.com can make sense if you want low federal filing costs and your return fits one of its online tiers. It is strongest for simple to moderate returns where you already know what forms you need.
I would be more careful if your return includes several states, unusual credits, messy self-employment records, rental income, or anything you would normally ask a tax professional to review. The software may still work, but the savings matter less when the risk of an error is higher.
