MoneyLion Review (2026): Credit Builder, Banking & Investing in One App

Got both the credit builder loan and credit builder+ and they've been working great. Also really appreciate how quick and simple their payday advance loans are to get. I've noticed a bunch of reviews under 5 stars complaining their credit isn't jumping up fast enough. Reality is it takes 3 to 6 months to see changes, since consistent on-time payments matter most. But you've also got to focus on reducing your debt (credit cards, loans, whatever else). Your credit score depends on your debt to income ratio plus payment history. If your credit's maxed out, your score won't budge or might even fall despite help from things like Experian Boost, Self, and Money Lion credit builder+. When your credit utilization is around half (like $250 out of $500), your debt to income looks good, and that's when these programs really start boosting your score monthly with on-time payments. Stay consistent, gradually knock down debt without reborrowing or maxing cards again and your score climbs pretty quickly.

Moneylion is an awesome way to manage your money I'm definitely sticking with this app and taking care of some stuff right now I'll be back at work soon and continue using it after my next direct deposit

Total waste of time and tanks your credit. Don't need help with that I can wreck it on my own. They sell your information.

They aren't like some other advance apps where you have no idea how much you're going to be eligible for after you pay them back. The transparency is appreciated and you know exactly what to expect each time.

I don't like that they only let you pull $100 out at a time, and conveniently each time you do get instacash, they charge you. The fees add up quickly and make it expensive for small amounts.

Attempted canceling my subscription via email since they make it nearly impossible through the app. They continued billing me anyway and refused any refund. Cleo or tilt is way better if you're in a bind.

Garbage company Predatory Misleading I've got direct deposit 4 times into my account. Still zero increase from $10. Said something about paying back the loan, done that over 10 times now. Boosts don't work and increase They're complete liars. You're required to subscribe and get direct deposit into them to qualify for any of this. Support is also totally unresponsive and I've waited now 9 days for a reply. Moneylion whoever responds to this I expect to reach out to me directly. I'm tired of trying to chase you down and it's never the person here typing. You are a blight 3.7? For a financial service company? Isn't the industry average like 4.8? 4.6? That speaks volumes

Moneylion has your back when times get tough

The customer service team performed well in certain areas, but really dropped the ball when the client asked for account assistance. Customer service either ignored or failed to respond to what the client needed. Money Lion is improving with customer service. Whenever the client raised concerns, they never addressed the customer's needs. They should either close down the app or fix the customer service.

Moneylion has been awesome! Really appreciate their assistance with Instacash whenever I need it! Their Credit Builder is super helpful too.... improving credit while putting away savings....double win...

I've had nothing but positive experiences with money lion

I cancelled my account with MoneyLion Plus 2 weeks ago and have yet to receive my refund. I was originally told I would receive it within 5-7 business days, but nothing has arrived and customer service keeps giving me the runaround.

Runs great....until the tiniest problem happens. I've been using Moneylion for several months now. At first, I was really pleased with what they offered. When everything's functioning correctly, there's no problems. But this company has made the very obvious, deliberate choice to not assist members whatsoever when they encounter even the most basic issues. For me, I've got the credit builder subscription. Part of what you get is if you hit certain criteria each month, they refund your subscription cost as rewards points. The cost is $19.99, just so you understand the amount we're discussing (an incredibly tiny sum to completely destroy all trust over). Their documentation states it should be distributed within 5 business days after month end. So November rewards should've been paid by end of Friday, December 5th. On December 6th nothing had arrived so I contacted support with a simple question requesting a status check. Figured this was pretty straightforward and would get answered fast. I was shocked at how complicated this became. In my message I clearly stated it had been over 5 days and wanted an update. The support agent messaged back a standard article about rewards, emphasizing they're paid within 5 business days of month end.........okay, so obviously they didn't actually read what I wrote. Irritating but whatever, I explained again it had exceeded that 5 days and needed an update. They then said they needed to investigate and told me they'd follow up in a few minutes. I agreed and stayed in the chat waiting. While waiting I got several messages saying "please tell us if there's anything we can help with." Then after roughly 3 minutes, I got a message stating "please respond and confirm how we can assist or this conversation will be closed." I immediately replied saying "I'm still waiting on you, you said you were investigating and haven't provided anything more." Now the support agent said that because of the complex nature of my request (what? This is literally the simplest question you'll ever get) could they follow up via email with a resolution? I agreed that was fine. I never got any follow up at all. During the next 2 days I ended up phoning support 4 separate times. Every time I was told they needed to reach the account specialist and would send a follow up email. Every time they sent an email with the same generic article the initial support person sent saying rewards are distributed within 5 business days of month end. Every time they closed the ticket without checking if my question was answered. Eventually I got a support person who stayed on the call until they reached the account team and finally provided an answer. Their answer was "there is a system error and we are working on it." They couldn't give any timeline for resolution, they couldn't offer any details, they couldn't provide anything useful. And again, this "system error" supposedly prevents them from issuing rewards points to members, but doesn't affect anything else regarding rewards points. Saying I'm frustrated doesn't even come close to describing it. It's just so disheartening to have things work fine with a company only for them to totally destroy all goodwill over the easiest question. Discovering how low these scumbags will stoop just for $19.99 that they'll ignore support inquiries and share no information, just hoping you'll ultimately forget about the rewards they promised when you bought from them initially...... it's draining and depressing. I just wish I was remotely surprised but now I suppose the joke is on me for believing that delivering a quality product was something a company would still attempt to do.

Simple process!

Getting money through the instacash was really simple and it's great to have available when you need funds. But I attempted to sign up for the Credit Builder and couldn't because my credit report was locked. I unlocked it and still couldn't apply. I contacted customer service and they said I needed to wait 60 days after removing the freeze to apply. I'm not comfortable leaving my credit report unlocked for 60 days and MoneyLion shouldn't make you do that.

They deliver on their promises. This has worked out way better than dealing with constant overdraft charges, pawn shops, payday loans, and similar options. I will say the timing of when they withdraw seems odd considering they can check my account balance.

I had a problem with the credit builder loan, and got transferred between several different "customer service representatives" because nobody could actually help me. One person even promised to call back and never followed through. It was incredibly frustrating to sort out, and everyone was unfriendly and unhelpful. They charge membership fees, collect interest on your funds, and everything is worded to trick you into their scheme. Stay away.

Been a member around 3 months now and they still haven't reported my payments to any credit bureaus I tried canceling my membership but couldn't because of the credit builder loan which isn't even improving my credit the payment date keeps changing each month instead of being consistent it's been a waste so far...update I was able to cancel my membership and now they're reporting the credit builder loan to experian

Been trying to withdraw $34 in crypto from my account for - no joke - 3 years. Used money lion for several years before their "Money Services" ads started aggressively interfering with my normal banking activities. Account got closed from inactivity, and I'd forgotten about the crypto roundups. *BTW: DO NOT even think about using MoneyLion for crypto. At this point I'm not convinced it's even real, but I was inexperienced and new to crypto then.*To be fair, it hasn't been constant back and forth this entire time. Usually every few months I pick it back up and try until they eventually wear me down into "forget it, not worth the hassle."But this last attempt to get my crypto out, they're claiming my birthdate and social security number don't match what they have on file, so we can't move forward.Seriously?After all these years of doing this, suddenly my social and DOB changed in your system? I know I didn't alter it. There's so many problems with that, pick whichever one bothers you most. Maybe this review will get some attention, but judging by their score... I doubt I'll ever see that money. And if you see that score, read stuff like this, and STILL want to try them... you've been warned. Just keep that in mind when you get frustrated. 11/15 UPDATE Soon after posting this review, their customer service reached out. A few days after that, I finally got to withdraw my funds. Because of this, I've begrudgingly increased my rating from 1 to 2 stars. I still wouldn't recommend this company for financial services. I'm thankful they finally fixed my issue. But needing to go this far to access my own money and how customer service performed until now... the trust is broken.

Really dislike the $8.99 charge every time you pull out $100. Also hate that you can't withdraw $500 all at once, it has to be $100 each time. Super annoying they request a tip every single time. Besides all that they're decent if you need money fast.

This is absolutely ridiculous I mean seriously just increase the fee already. Can't believe they've designed their system to pressure customers into tipping. I selected the no thanks I'll tip later button and it wouldn't let me continue. This app is terrible. I switched my credit builder loan payment to ACH. But then the app showed I was overdue on my payment. Which wasn't true, but I tried to pay manually in the app, and one section says I'm past due, but when I go to make a payment under the credit builder section, it shows I'm current and won't allow me to make a payment because of this. Now it's appearing like I'm missing payments on time, and hurting my future cash advance and looks bad for my credit. I've been on hold with them for the past 30 mins. 24/7 customer service.. yeah, right. This is like the 5th time I've had a problem with the app malfunctioning, and their customer service being so poor is unacceptable.

Initially when I registered I could access $50 of insta cash and I repaid that then I got approved for $190 of insta cash to use and I used that and repaid it then they increased my limit to $205 insta cash but then disabled it and claimed I couldn't access it because they need to verify my identity. But they already verified my identity which is how I got my insta cash to begin with so I submitted photos of my ID front and back and a selfie of myself holding my ID. I've submitted this to them no less than 15 times and they're still having issues verifying my identity I don't understand how they can't verify in 15 pictures the identical person holding the identical ID the incompetence is unbelievable don't use this site it's trash and they won't allow me to close my account because I have one of their money loans that I've been paying into.

Money lion is a total scam in my opinion I registered for a loan because I needed funds and wanted to improve my credit and they deceived me and said I won't receive the loan until I pay it off in full first! And significantly lowered my credit score! I strongly do not recommend.

Moneylion automatically pulls repayments around 1am on the day I get paid but with my bank my paycheck doesn't even deposit into my account until around 7-8am so it results in overdraft fees or sometimes rejected payment. So Moneylion really should adjust the timing they take automatic repayments because not every bank operates the same.

I regret ever signing up for this scam because I have to pay 500$ just to close the account and I don't have that kind of money. They make everything sound so great and they trap you like that.

I was sent an preapproval notication, At the beginning of the process I was approved for the loan. A day later I received a notication saying I was denied without any clear explanation why.

I honestly can say my financial decisions in the past have been horrible and have came across some "highway robbers" in my day that in comparison make MoneyLion look like a blessing. They've helped me get my finances back on track with reasonable terms.

Needed a loan, although I needed more money than they approved, I need to work on my credit score. My loan was approved in a matter of minutes and the process was straightforward. I appreciate the quick turnaround time.

I'm really unsatisfied with moneylion. I've had my phone service suspended twice because they don't post my deposits when they should be posted. I've incurred late fees and service interruptions because of their delayed processing times.

So I'm having terrible issues with MoneyLion. So I paid off my loan early on 9/12. And on the app it shows the payoff, but they're still trying to charge me monthly fees. Customer service has been unhelpful in resolving this issue.

To anyone who ends up reading this... I had a Moneylion account since June of 2020. When I opened the account I had no issues. However, over time the service deteriorated significantly and I experienced multiple problems with their platform.

MoneyLion provides a quick and easy option for people who are in a position of needing a small loan quickly without breaking the bank in interest fees. The approval process is straightforward and the funds arrive fast.

Service to get debit card address updated, took over 6 months, support never saw request, requested again now waiting the 14 days to receive. All other aspects of the service work fine, but the card replacement process needs improvement.

I got a hotel room on July 17. $200 was put on hold and to this day, I have NOT received MY $. I used my MoneyLion card and the hold still hasn't been released despite multiple attempts to resolve it.

The company did not take 2 bi-weekly loan payments for my credit builder loan. I work at the financial institution that the funds should of been withdrawn from and confirmed they never attempted to process the payments. This negatively impacted my credit score.

Worst customer service ever. Took out a loan that was for 1 year (July 2019), they transposed the account number when recording it in their system. This caused endless problems with payments and communication, and they refused to take responsibility for their error.

I have no problem with this company. First stop e-mail messaging to them. Shit call their customer service if you have a problem. Secondly if you read the terms and conditions you'll understand how everything works and won't be surprised by any fees.

If I could give it zero I would. If you are a disabled Navy Veteran like me I strongly advise against moneylion. They can and will take advantage of your situation with hidden fees and unfair practices.

Customer support cannot help you. They place you on hold to talk to someone that can and then get back on the phone to let you know nothing can be done to resolve your issue.

The downsides way outweigh any good that the Instacash could offer. 1.) I applied for a loan back in October 2022. Have my identification (birthdate, social security, etc.) verified multiple times, yet still face ongoing issues with account access and loan processing.

Terrible, Money Lion does not respond to your support request for days. I've been left on hold for more than 45 minutes only to be disconnected without speaking to anyone. Their customer service is completely unacceptable.

Awesomely convenient. Member for less than a month but I am saving money I'm sure I normally wouldn't have and I actually like the idea of automated savings. The loan feature is also very helpful when unexpected expenses come up.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! READ CAREFULLY! For those of you interested in MoneyLion (ML), I am going to break down the ins and outs of this predatory lending service and why you should avoid it.

I opened an account with MoneyLion back in December 2018 to this date January 14, 2019 I still havent received my debit card. Stupid of me to trust an online bank with no physical locations to resolve issues.

It was a very straightforward service and it builds your credit, from what friends have told me. I decided to use it, and it worked exactly as advertised with no surprises or hidden fees.

Im really surprised by some of these other reviews. I've had this account for a few months and have had nothing but a great experience with quick loans and helpful features.

I applied and needed the money to finance to complete my Idea with a company for licensing and so forth. I applied and supposedly received approval, but the funds never materialized despite multiple follow-ups.

The instacash was fantastic. Now I'm ineligible to get it for some reason they can't tell me due to security reasons.......ummm. ok..... Credit builder loan is decent but the lack of transparency is frustrating.

Filed a dispute on a fraudulent transaction in May. Its October and its still open. I've been a customer for 3 years. Suddenly I'm not eligible for services without any clear explanation.

So many products to help with so many things.

Only downside is not being able to take out lump sum's or customize what you really need for Insta cash and credit builder loan.

I've noticed that when I check in daily I haven't been getting my $1.00 credit!!! I'm hoping this is a mistake and they will correct it soon because otherwise I've been happy with the service.

I've been using MONEYlion for almost 3 years now. First of all, I love how I can use my instacash whenever I need it & the credit builder feature has really helped improve my score.

High fees for cash outs. Foreign call centers. Inconsistent customer service responses. Had them since 2018. Got it when my credit was bad. Now that my credit is better, I'm looking for alternatives with lower fees.

They lure you in with a low apr on a loan. Then they sign you up for a money builder plus account to build credit. The problem is they charge you monthly fees and the loan money is held in reserve so you can't actually use it.

There are multiple benefits to a MoneyLion account. You can use it to track your scores, get loans, build credit, and also to purchase cryptocurrencies.

Because there is so much diversity it is easy to become distracted and lose focus on a particular task. Also the help and advice sections could be more comprehensive and easier to navigate.

Moneylion tries to take more money without informing you. I was just recently charged 9 times for the membership fee when all that should have been charged was once. I had to dispute the charges with my bank.

This is one of the worst banks ever the fees rates is the only good thing I have to say customer service is even worse. They don't respond quickly and don't resolve issues properly.

I've been using MoneyLion the free version for about a year occasionally trying to upgrade to the plus version but due to my ID not being accepted, I haven't been able to. Overall the free version has still been useful for tracking my finances.
