CITI BANK RIPS OFF CUSTOMERS
Most recent update on my issue with Citi Bank. 11/02/2024
They don't even take the time to read through the full reviews I've posted on different platforms.
Here's a partial response to my Google review from an agent Rita O:
"Based on the email you provided, you indicated that you "got scammed online". This could be the reason why there is a block on the account and until we can validate that the correct person is asking for the money and not the scammers, the account will remain blocked. This process cannot be overridden. "
If you would read the complete review. You'd see that the very first sentence reads:
CITI BANK RIPS OFF CUSTOMERS
They suggested an email and I wrote back.
Here's their response:
Hello Carol. I regret to hear about your experience, and we'd be glad to forward your feedback to the branch for review. Please email.......
Now here's their 3rd response after telling me twice to email.:
"Hello Carol,
We're unable to service accounts via Email since it's not secure. Please call our Citiphone team to be connected with the department who blocked the account. Our Social Media team is unable to override/expedite their internal review in any way. Let us know if help is needed making that call."
Somebody tell me, am I wrong or is this a case where one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. And may the good Lord forgive me because my patience is running very thin.
On 09/10/2024 I went into the Citi Branch at Oakland Park, Florida.
The personal Banker Natalia Galligan, NMLS ID: 2433240 assisted me with opening a checking account. I let her know I had a rough experience with PNC since I currently reside in Thailand and do volunteer work for missions that care for children and teens rescued from sex slavery and the slums. I also mentioned that a US Mobile number either doesn't function or costs more than I can manage on my modest social security. All I needed was a simple checking account to receive my retirement funds and cover my automatic bills, like mortgage, maintenance and such.
She said using the Mobile app for everything would be perfectly fine. Since we addressed all my concerns and opened the checking account. I deposited some money and switched over all my autopayments along with social security to this account for my bills, plus added a little extra from my savings.
Relieved and holding my new checking card, I flew back to Thailand confident that everything was set.
What a disaster began the second I tried to use my card or download the Citi app on my Thai phone. Immediately blocked. I was floored. We had covered every detail and now I'm dealing with the identical issues I faced with PNC? I mean if I were some kind of high risk customer, I'd get it, but you don't maintain nearly an 800 credit score by not paying your bills. You don't earn a credit line of $150000 by mismanaging your finances. Even since retiring I have never delayed any payment or failed to pay a bill. But that's going to happen real soon if Citi doesn't take action to return the money they've been withholding now for close to 4 weeks, with no explanation as to why they froze my account. Three weeks ago, I called the 800 number and they assured me they'd send an explanation letter and a check with the money they're keeping. MY MONEY. I PUT THAT MONEY IN THE ACCOUNT. So, it's my money.
I'm no stranger to getting scammed online by various people and I'm grateful that I never took a serious hit. But being scammed by a company like CITI is the absolute worst thing that can happen. If you can't trust your own bank, what choice do you have?
Today I tried once more to reason with them. At this point I don't care why they closed my account. I know I didn't do anything wrong, but I need my money to pay my bills.
Something has to change. I am getting desperate.
Citi, this is no way to treat your customers. We give you our lives and you treat us like the numbers printed on your papers. Obviously I'm a small number, but every drop fills the bucket.
Sincerely,
Carol M. Patterson
