iTrustCapital is a software platform for self-directed IRAs that hold crypto, precious metals, stocks, and ETFs. Account fees are $0 and crypto trades cost 1% on each buy and each sell. Fortis Bank is the qualified custodian.

You need $1,000 to start, and you can't fund the IRA with crypto you hold on an exchange or in a wallet. It suits savers who buy and hold and who accept that digital assets can lose value.
  • $0 setup, monthly, and annual account fees
  • 100+ cryptocurrencies, physical precious metals, and 10,000+ stocks and ETFs
  • Traditional, Roth, and SEP IRAs, with rollovers and in-kind crypto IRA transfers

Fee example: buying $5,000 of crypto at iTrustCapital's 1% transaction fee costs $50, and selling $5,000 costs another $50. The minimum initial contribution is $1,000. Fees as published by iTrustCapital on October 16, 2026.

What iTrustCapital Is and Who It's For

This iTrustCapital review is for you if you want crypto, precious metals, stocks, or ETFs inside a retirement account and want to see what it costs before you sign up.

iTrustCapital is the trading name of ITC2.0, Inc., a company based in Irvine, California. It runs a self-directed crypto IRA: you choose the assets and place the trades yourself.

The company calls itself a fintech software platform for traditional and alternative assets. By its own disclosure, it is not an exchange, funding portal, custodian, trust company, licensed broker, dealer, broker-dealer, investment adviser, or investment manager.

iTrustCapital uses a third-party qualified custodian, Fortis Bank, to hold client assets. Stocks and ETFs go through a brokerage account at Apex Clearing Corporation.

The platform is open to U.S. residents who are at least 18 and have eligible income. You need $1,000 for your first contribution.

If IRAs are new to you, start with our IRA guide.

How the iTrustCapital Crypto IRA Works

Here's how getting started works.

Open your IRA

Choose a Traditional, Roth, or SEP IRA and fill in your details. The account has to be in your own name.

Fund it

Send cash by ACH or wire, roll over a workplace plan, or transfer an IRA you hold somewhere else.

Secure your login

Set up two-factor authentication. iTrustCapital recommends an authenticator app over SMS.

Pick your assets

Buy crypto, physical metals, or stocks and ETFs. Stocks and ETFs need a short brokerage onboarding first.

One funding rule to know before you start: you can't move crypto you already hold on an exchange or in a wallet into an IRA. IRS rules don't allow it. Crypto can only come in through an in-kind transfer from another crypto IRA.

Account Types

iTrustCapital offers three IRA types for your own retirement savings. It also takes inherited IRAs by transfer and has two taxable accounts.

  • Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, and SEP IRA. These are the core retirement accounts.
  • Inherited IRA. You can move an inherited (beneficiary) IRA in by transfer. IRS rules don't allow annual contributions to it.
  • Premium Custody Account. A taxable account outside the IRA rules.
  • Treasury Account. A taxable account for businesses, trusts, non-profits, and other entities.

Whatever the type, the IRA has to be in your name. An LLC or a trust can't own it. A trust can be a beneficiary, and you can name several primary beneficiaries as long as their shares add up to 100%.

Rollovers and Transfers

You can roll over money from a 401(k), 403(b), TSP, or other qualified plan, and you can transfer an IRA from another provider. A rollover takes 5 to 15 business days in most cases, and sometimes 3 to 4 weeks.

If you already hold a crypto IRA elsewhere, you can move it in kind, without selling, as long as iTrustCapital supports those assets.

Roth Conversions

You can convert a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA on the platform. Each conversion costs $75, charged to the card on file, and takes around 1 to 3 business days.

If you're starting a Roth from scratch, our guide on how to open a Roth IRA covers the basics.

iTrustCapital Fees

There's no fee for having the account. Here are the fees as listed on iTrustCapital's own pages on October 16, 2026.

FeeWhat you pay

Account setup, monthly, and annual fees

$0

Buying or selling crypto

1% per transaction

Stocks and ETFs

Zero commission

Gold, silver, and platinum

$125, $6, and $160 per ounce over spot (gold, silver, platinum), as listed on October 16, 2026

Roth conversion

$75 per conversion

Minimum initial contribution

$1,000

Additional deposits (rollovers, transfers, contributions)

$500 minimum

Transfer out to another custodian (cash sent by wire)

$15 wire fee

The metals premiums are listed on iTrustCapital's Gold IRA page and can change, so check them before you buy. The company's Gold IRA page also lists no setup fees, no storage charges, and no yearly maintenance costs.

Crypto prices come from iTrustCapital's liquidity providers, not from an exchange order book. The spread can differ from exchange prices, especially when markets move fast.

Worked Example: What $5,000 of Crypto Costs

Say you roll over a 401(k) and put $5,000 into Bitcoin. Here's what you pay in fees.

What you doFee

Buy $5,000 of crypto

$50 (1%)

Sell $5,000 of crypto later

$50 (1%)

Keep the account open for a year

$0

Total

$100, plus any spread in the price

The fee is a flat percentage, so it grows with the size of your trade.

If you trade often, the fee on both sides adds up. If you buy and hold, it matters less, and you pay nothing to keep the account open.

What You Can Invest In

Crypto

iTrustCapital lists 100+ digital assets, including BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, ADA, DOGE, LINK, and LTC. Some are available only in an IRA, not in the Premium Custody Account.

If a coin you want isn't listed, you can submit a request for it.

Stablecoins with Rewards

You can hold the stablecoins USDC and RLUSD in an IRA or a Premium Custody Account and earn rewards on them. Keep in mind that neither can be taken out of an IRA in kind, and rewards rates are not guaranteed and can change.

Physical Gold, Silver, and Platinum

Kitco sources the metals, and they're stored as large bullion bars at the Royal Canadian Mint. Your holding is recorded on the blockchain through DirectReserve, and you own it 1:1 by the ounce.

Your metal is allocated to you, but it isn't kept in a separate vault. The company's Gold IRA page lists 24/7 real-time spot pricing.

If you're weighing metal you own by the ounce against a fund that tracks gold, read our comparison of gold ETFs vs physical gold.

Stocks and ETFs

You can trade 10,000+ stocks and ETFs with zero commission, through a brokerage account at Apex Clearing Corporation.

Trading follows regular U.S. market hours: 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET, Monday to Friday, with no extended hours. Mutual funds aren't on offer. Dividends are paid into your account, and fractional shares are available for eligible assets.

Custody and Security

If you're asking whether iTrustCapital is legit, start with who holds your money.

Who Holds Your Assets

IRA custody is provided by one or more of iTrust Custodial Services and Fortis Bank, and Fortis Bank is named as the qualified custodian.

For digital assets, iTrust Custodial Services works with institutional storage providers: Coinbase Custody, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Fireblocks. You don't choose which provider holds your assets.

iTrustCapital says these providers keep assets in offline cold storage with multi-party computation, undergo external audits with SOC 2 Type II certification, and carry commercial crime insurance policies. The providers don't disclose the amounts their policies cover.

You can't hold IRA crypto in your personal wallet. IRS rules require a custodian for IRA assets.

Stocks and ETFs sit in a brokerage account at Apex Clearing Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Apex Fintech Solutions Inc. Apex is an SEC-registered broker-dealer, a member of FINRA and SIPC, and registered in 53 states and territories.

What Is Insured and What Isn't

Your U.S. dollar cash sits in FDIC-insured bank deposit accounts, or in short-term money market accounts that aren't FDIC insured but carry SIPC coverage. Where FDIC insurance applies, it comes through bank partners including Wells Fargo Bank and Fortis Bank.

iTrustCapital itself is not an FDIC-insured institution, and FDIC insurance only protects against the failure of an FDIC-insured bank, subject to limits and conditions. Digital assets aren't covered by FDIC insurance and can lose value.

How Your Login Is Protected

  • Two-factor authentication by SMS or an authenticator app. Support can switch you to the app on request.
  • Security questions on your account.
  • A Service PIN, which support uses to verify you before account changes.

Platform Features

24/7 Crypto Trading

Crypto trades around the clock, weekends included. A trade clears in about 45 seconds and settles in about two minutes, according to iTrustCapital's help center (October 2026).

Conditional Transactions

Conditional Transactions let you set a trigger price above or below the market. When the asset reaches it, the platform submits a market order, so they work like a stop or a price trigger, not like a limit order. The execution price is not guaranteed, as iTrustCapital's help center explains (April 2026).

Q Automated Strategies

Q is a set of opt-in automated strategies. iTrustCapital describes them as quantitative strategies that buy and sell selected cryptocurrencies using predefined algorithmic rules.

You decide whether to switch a strategy on, and you can switch it off on any day. The strategies shown on the site include Quantum, which trades BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, and LINK, plus strategies for BTC and XRP.

Q is not a managed account, and iTrustCapital gives no investment advice. Every trade on the platform is self-directed, so the risk of a strategy is yours.

Staking ETH and SOL

You can stake ETH and SOL inside your retirement account or Premium Custody Account. Rewards are paid out when you unstake. iTrustCapital uses a third-party staking infrastructure provider and an institutional storage provider for staking.

Apps

You can use the web dashboard or the iTrustCapital: Buy Crypto 24/7 app on iOS and Android. On the App Store, the iOS app holds a 4.2 rating from 161 ratings (October 16, 2026).

There's no API for third-party apps, bots, or trackers.

Customer Support

Phone support runs Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM PT. New clients call (562) 600-8399, tech support is at (213) 558-4174, and existing clients find their number under Get Support in the dashboard.

There's also a help center with 136 articles and a request form. The company says its support team is 100% U.S.-based.

On Trustpilot, iTrustCapital has a 5.0 rating from 9,806 reviews (October 16, 2026). Recent reviews name individual support staff and praise how security issues were handled, and the company replies to reviews.

Taxes and IRA Rules

iTrustCapital gives no tax advice. Its help center does list the IRS rules that apply to your account.

AccountContribution limit for 2026

Traditional or Roth IRA, under 50

$7,500

Traditional or Roth IRA, 50 or older

$8,600

SEP IRA

Up to $72,000, or roughly 25% of adjusted gross income

These are the IRS limits for 2026, as quoted in iTrustCapital's help center.

Traditional IRAs come with required minimum distributions (RMDs) from age 73, and the administrator sends you a notice each year. Roth IRAs have no RMDs.

Early withdrawals before age 59 1/2 are taxed as ordinary income plus a 10% additional tax, with some IRS exceptions. Roth accounts have their own timing rules, and our guide on when you can withdraw from a Roth IRA goes through them.

You can take distributions in kind. Ask for an in-kind distribution of Bitcoin, for example, and iTrustCapital sends the Bitcoin to your personal wallet. USDC and RLUSD aren't available in kind.

You can't take a loan against your iTrustCapital IRA. Borrowing from a workplace plan follows its own rules, covered in our guide to 401(k) loans.

Who iTrustCapital Suits and Who It Doesn't

iTrustCapital fits you if:

  • You want crypto inside a Traditional, Roth, or SEP IRA and you're comfortable making your own decisions.
  • You're rolling over a 401(k), 403(b), or TSP and want crypto or physical metals in the mix.
  • You hold a crypto IRA somewhere else and want to move the coins in kind, without selling.
  • You plan to buy and hold, so having no account fees matters more to you than the trading fee.

You should look elsewhere if:

  • You trade crypto often. At 1% on every buy and every sell, frequent trading gets expensive.
  • You have less than $1,000 to start.
  • You want mutual funds, extended-hours stock trading, or an API for bots and trackers.
  • You live outside the United States, or you want an account for a child.
  • You want someone to manage your money for you. iTrustCapital gives no investment advice, and Q is not a managed account.

FDIC insurance only covers the failure of the insured bank, and iTrustCapital itself is not an FDIC-insured institution.
